Summary


Clinical Skills & Simulation Practitioner

Band 6

Hours: 22.5 per week – 0.6 WTE all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

We are seeking a motivated Band 6 Nurse or Midwife to join our education team in a developmental Clinical Skills and Simulation Practitioner role. The post holder will support undergraduate medical students from the University of Buckingham Medical School and contribute to the delivery of Trust-wide simulation training.

This is a supported development role, with training provided to enable delivery of the AIM course, Human Factors workshops, and a range of clinical skills teaching. The role offers an excellent opportunity for a practitioner with a passion for education to build expertise in simulation-based learning and faculty development.

Working with the Clinical Skills and Simulation Manager, the jobholder will provide education and training for all healthcare professionals working within the Trust as well as undergraduate medical students. This will include, clinical skills training, multi-disciplinary scenario-based training and simulation training.



The post holder will assist in the development and implementation of a core curriculum of clinical skills and simulation assessments for clinical staff, undergraduate students and other allied health professionals. The jobholder will also contribute to the development of multi-disciplinary training courses.



Provide advice, guidance and support to all healthcare staff regarding clinical skills, simulation and training issues.

Support the Clinical Skills and Simulation Manager in the planning and delivery of training and education for all Trust staff to meet local, regional and national requirements.

Training and Competency Assessment
• Deliver high standards of clinical skills & simulation training across the Trust

• Build and maintain strong and cohesive working relationships across the Trust.

• To deliver practical clinical skills training to clinical staff in the hospital. Skills will include venepuncture, cannulation, arterial blood sampling, IV drug administration, nasogastric tube insertion and urinary catheterisation.
Stock Control and Maintenance
• To assist the Clinical Skills and Simulation Manager in ensuring that all clinical skills and simulation equipment owned by the department are regularly maintained

• Assist with the ordering and the stock control of consumables necessary for the delivery of clinical skills and simulation of training.
Professional
• To ensure that they are up to date with any new developments, recommendations or guidelines and are competent in the skills that they are expected to provide.

• Work with college tutors, educational supervisors, clinical educators and the multi-professional team to develop and maintain a service fit for purpose

• To act at all time in a professional manner in accordance with the NMC or HCPC Code of Professional Conduct.
Training
• The jobholder will assist the Clinical Skills and Simulation Manager to develop, implement, evaluate and maintain a core curriculum of clinical skills

& simulation training for the inter-professional workforce

• Create and maintain a suitable learning environment for multi-disciplinary staff training.



Communication

• Provide advice and support at all levels to staff (clinical and non-clinical), regarding all aspects of clinical skills & simulation, including risk assessments

• Attendance at meetings locally and nationally to represent the Trust’s interest in all aspects of clinical skills & simulation

• Contribute to the effectiveness of inter-professional working and education as appropriate

• Ensure that lines of reporting to the management team are robust and efficient.
Facilities
• Support and assist the Clinical Skills and Simulation Manager in overseeing the maintenance of equipment and identify need for replacements as required

• Support the Clinical Skills and Simulation Manager in sourcing the most appropriate equipment

• Ensure Trust policy is adhered to at all times

• Undertake risk assessment as required
Other Duties
· To line manage the Clinical Skill and Simulation Technicians, including ensuring appraisals and mandatory training are up to date and sickness absences are managed.
