Summary

My client a long established and highly successful civil engineering contractor specialising in railway engineering is looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their work winning team in Sheffield.

As an AQS, you can expect to be working on projects ranging from £2k to £2.5m, with an average of £5k. The works are reactive and there is a fast pace with 20 to 30 projects per week being issued by our framework Partners for reactive maintenance and small scheme projects.

Candidate Responsibilites:

Main Function of Job:

  • Prepare estimates using a schedule of rates

  • Price variations / technical queries to contracted works

  • Liaise with delivery team regarding works executed

  • Analyse cost reports

  • Assist in producing final accounts

  • Negotiate and agree final accounts with Client

  • Compile cost-value reconciliations

  • Submit periodic valuations

  • Assessing sub-contractors claims

  • Attend site to take measurements

  • Attend progress meetings

  • Contribute to monthly commercial meetings

  • Submit periodic applications for payment

  • Assist with and help produce commercial reports for the Board of Directors

  • Assist with all change control processes

  • Work with supply chain for procurement of suppliers and S/C

  • Assist with tenders

  • Comply with and promote the company safety policy

Candidate Requirements:

  • HND / HNC or working towards - Essential

  • MS Office Skills - Essential

  • Degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying - Desirable

  • Similar experience working within a contracting environment (rail experience preferred but not essential)

  • Ability to work on own initiative and unsupervised
