This is a site-based role at County Hall, Newport, Isle of Wight, with agile and flexible work practices and locations within the community.

Licensing is a small but extremely busy team, and we are now looking to recruit an Assistant Licensing Officer.

This is a varied role working within multiple legislative frameworks. Your primary responsibilities will be to effectively administer all aspects of the licensed vehicle trade, to include hackney carriage and private hire vehicles, new driver applications, driver renewals, operator licences, pleasure boat licences and boatmen. You will ensure that policy and legislative requirements are met in relation to both regimes.

You will also process street collection permits and lottery registrations. You’ll be able to provide advice and assist applicants through the application process, and deal with enquiries from the trade as well as external and internal agencies as well as dealing with low level complaints.

You must be organised and a strong communicator as you will be required to liaise with members of the licensed trade as well as businesses and other agencies both inside the council and externally.

You will also be required to be competent in the use of ICT and in particular applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook.

Full training will be provided in house by shadowing officers until competency is achieved. You will also be required to complete a number of online training courses provided by the Institute of Licensing.

Applicants should have:

A full driving licence and use of a car.
GCSE level qualifications or equivalent pass at 4-9 / C-A* (or equivalent) including Maths and English language

We operate flexible working arrangements where agile working is encouraged and supported which includes some working from home.
