A new and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Community Midwifery Team as aBereavement Maternity support worker.
The Primary role of the bereavement Maternity Support Worker is to assist, support and work in collaboration with the bereavement midwifery team and the wider multidisciplinary team to assist in providing the highest standards of maternity/early pregnancy bereavement care in accordance with agreed bereavement standards, guidelines and pathways.
This is a specialist role to work alongside the bereavement team to support the bereaved parents whilst in hospital and once at home.
• To assist the Bereavement Midwife and colleagues in delivering a caring and effective patient focussed service in keeping with the values and standards of the Trust.
• Under guidance, ensure that sensitive and appropriate care is provided to meet individuals’ needs, respecting personal dignity and beliefs.
• Ensuring Information is handled and exchanged with care, accuracy and sensitivity, maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
• Under the guidance, and with the support of the Bereavement Midwife, to assist with the coordination and delivery of all aspects of Bereavement Service for families who have experienced Late Miscarriage, Medical Termination of Pregnancy, Stillbirth and Neonatal death.
• The post holder is expected to undertake a set of defined competencies. Support will be provided to further develop their skills and explore pathways for progression where appropriate.
• To have an understanding and awareness of different cultures and religions in respect of bereavement care.
• Following the necessary training, the post holder will support the wider Midwifery team to provide clinical care to bereaved families. Helping to maintain the well-being of the bereaved parents and assisting with the maintenance of a safe care environment. Including preparing and clearing rooms and equipment with particular reference to infection control and safe working environment for patients, visitors and staff.
The post-holder will be expected to support weekend working.
