The Role

We are seeking an inspiring and passionate Teacher of Design Technology with a Food Technology specialism to join our forward-thinking school.

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative practitioner who believes that great learning happens when students design, make, test and taste. In our well-resourced Design Technology Department, Food Technology is a vibrant and valued subject that equips young people with essential life skills, scientific understanding and a genuine love of food and nutrition.

As a teacher of Design Technology (Food), you will:

• Deliver engaging and inclusive lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to teach GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition
• Inspire students to think critically about healthy eating, sustainability, culture and food provenance
• Foster creativity, independence and confidence in practical learning environments
• Contribute to a collaborative department that values innovation, high standards and professional growth

The Candidate

We are looking for a teacher who:

• Is passionate about Food Technology and its impact on students’ lives
• Has strong subject knowledge and a commitment to excellent teaching and learning
• demonstrate the ability to consistently deliver inspirational learning experiences for students
• have an understanding of how to promote effective and inclusive teaching and learning
• be able to evidence success in raising student achievement across a broad range of abilities through successful assessment, monitoring and evaluation of student progress, and the range of strategies that could be used to address underachievement
• possess good communication skills with students, colleagues and parents
• demonstrate a strong desire to undertake Continuing Professional Development to inform teaching

The Department

The Technology Department includes Resistant Materials, Graphics, Textiles and Food Technology. Technology is a popular subject both at Key Stage 3 and GCSE, with demand exceeding capacity. The department is well resourced with two workshops (one housing a laser cutter and a 3D printer), one textiles room, and a designated Food room. A full time technician ably assists in the preparation for Food Technology lessons and supports students with SEND.

The department is also supported by a Lead Practitioner within the Trust, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning are maintained.
