Summary
The physiotherapy department is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Specialist Physiotherapist. This job-share role will be the clinical lead for the Physiotherapy In-Patient Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery service. The post holder will be committed to providing an effective and efficient service for patients, working with Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners and the Deputy Therapy Services Manager to coordinate and develop the physiotherapy Spinal service.
1. To be responsible for coordinating, delivering and evaluating the service within In-Patient Orthopaedic Spines.
1. To take a lead role in advanced assessment and treatment within the speciality of In-Patient Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery, providing expert clinical knowledge.
1. To liaise with other therapy staff, Deputy Therapy Services Managers, Therapy Services Manager and members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) regarding coordinated service delivery,contributing to the development of the department and providing leadership across all wards.
1. To liaise with other Team Leaders to ensure a streamlined service across departments.

MAIN DUTIES
Clinical
• To be professionally and legally accountable and responsible for all aspects of own work, including the management of patient care. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management, and support more junior staff to do likewise.
• To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations, using analytical skills and manual assessment techniques to determine a clinical diagnosis as an autonomous practitioner.
• To formulate and deliver treatment programmes using clinical reasoning and a wide range of treatment skills (including manual physiotherapy techniques). Evaluate and modify treatment plans according to patient needs, discharging them when appropriate. Seek advice from others when necessary and work without direct supervision.
• To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, and to organise this effectively with regard to clinical priorities and the use of time.
• To provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to patients, relatives, carers and other professionals, to promote understanding of the aims of physiotherapy and to ensure a consistent approach to patient care.
• To communicate with and provide highly specialist advice, teaching and training to other members of the MDT and therapy colleagues working within other clinical areas and for otherorganisations. This will ensure co-ordinatedservice provision for the benefit ofpatients.
• To represent therapy service and/or individual patients at ward rounds, clinics and case conferences where appropriate.
• To communicate effectively and gain informed consent from patients, carers and other professionals tomaximiserehabilitation potential within In-Patient Orthopaedic Spines and to ensure understanding of condition and/or surgery. This will, on occasions, include complex and sensitive information requiring skills of explanation, motivation and persuasion to overcome physical, emotional, mental and cultural barriers.
• To maintain accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date documentation in line with departmental and CSP / COT standards, including communication of assessment and treatment results to appropriate disciplines in the form of reports and letters.
• To work weekends and Bank holidays as part of contracted hours in line with service requirements. To include regular weekend working within substantive hours.
• To be an active member of the evening and weekend on-call Physiotherapy service.
• To work extended hours to support Jointcare programme.
Professional
• To maintain own clinical professional development and portfolio by keeping abreast of any new trends and developments, incorporate them as necessary into current clinical practice.
• To be an active member of the in-service trainingprogrammebyorganising, attending and teaching at tutorials, training sessions and external courses.
• To provide clinical experience and supervision for undergraduate students withinIn-Patient Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery.
• To undertake the measurement and evaluation of work and current practices within In-patientOrthopaedic Spinal Surgeryboth individually and with other colleagues. This will involve the use of evidence-based practice, audit and outcome measures.
• To demonstrate a sound understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management and apply to work situation, following department and Trust policies.
Organisational and Management
• To be responsible for coordinating and developing the Physiotherapy In-Patient Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery services. To liaise with other Therapy Team leaders and Therapy services Managers as appropriate.
• To support the Trust in corporate roles e.g. Falls lead as required
• To ensure appropriate prioritisation, organisation and delegation of tasks on a daily basis within in-patient Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery, balancing patient related and professional demands.
• To monitor, audit and objectively assess the performance and workload of in-patient Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery, giving feedback to the Deputy Therapy Services Manager.
• To appraise and develop staff appropriate to grade and experience within in-patient Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery.
• To provide professional support and supervision for more junior members of staff working in other specialties as required.
• To be aware of national guidelines or publications relating to Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery, review their impact on the therapy service, recommend changes and implement where required.
• To develop clinical guidelines, protocols and policies within In-Patient Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery, liaising with the Deputy Therapy Services Manager and support other team leaders to do likewise within their areas.
• To liaise with other team leaders to ensure a streamlined, patient centred Spinal Surgery service.
• To be responsible for equipment used within In-Patient Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery, ensuring competency and safety to use equipment by others through teaching and supervision. To order new equipment as required, following authorisation by the Therapy Services Manager.
• To be aware of Health and Safety at Work Act and its relevance to the physiotherapy department and in-patient environment.
• To remain up-to-date with and attend all mandatory training provided, in line with Trust policies.
