This is an exciting, new substantive post for a Consultant in Acute Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology. The post will support and develop leadership of our expanding clinical service and represents a rare opportunity in the UK to spearhead our leading, highly specialist diabetes and lipid services, built on our strong legacy.
The department provides a comprehensive service for all specialist elements of diabetes and endocrinology, and includes highly distinctive links to paediatrics, maternal medicine, and genetics. Excitingly, we recently moved into a new, purpose-built centre at the south end of the Oxford Road campus. We have excellent access to diagnostic radiology and biochemistry, a multi-purpose specialist day-case unit and in-patient facilities. The Diabetes service has an established national reputation for clinical excellence and leadership in diabetes technology, diabetic foot disease and inpatient diabetes, with close ties to pancreas and islet cell transplantation as well as renal transplantation services. The Lipid clinic provides a regional tertiary referral service for lipoprotein disorders, genetic dyslipidaemias, lipoprotein apheresis and lipodystrophies.

The successful candidate will be expected to continue the development of specialist services, working closely with other consultants within Acute Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology department and help share departmental workload, as well as ensuring the delivery of quality standards in medical care including the key areas of inpatient care.
