We are seeking a Lead Maintenance Electrician to join the engineering team at Highgate Mental Health Hospital - a secure, safety-critical healthcare site.
Job Description
This is a hands-on, multi-skilled maintenance role focused on planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive electrical work, compliance, and operational continuity.
There will also be opportunities to carry out quoted projects and installation works outside of normal working hours.
You will act as the senior electrical authority on site, taking responsibility for day-to-day operation, safety, and performance of electrical building services.
The role offers the opportunity to develop into an Authorised Person (AP – Electrical) and progress into a Supervisor position within 12 months.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver planned and reactive maintenance across the hospital estate (60% electrical / 40% multi-skilled)
Lead on-site electrical compliance, safe systems of work, and statutory inspections
Maintain electrical plant, distribution, lighting, emergency systems, and associated building services
Record, report, and close out all maintenance activities effectively in line with procedures
Support and supervise the on-site maintenance team and specialist subcontractors
Progress into the role of Authorised Person (AP – Electrical), with financial support (~£1,000) for AP certification
Contribute to water safety compliance and broader facilities responsibilities
Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications
Experienced maintenance electrician with NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Electrical Installation or Maintenance
Knowledge of 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and statutory compliance requirements
Comfortable working in occupied, healthcare or mental health environments
Experience as a Lead / Senior Maintenance Electrician or Authorised Person preferred
Multi-skilled capabilities across facilities maintenance
Confident working independently and supervising small teams
