Summary

Trust Doctor (SHO) in Palliative Medicine

We are seeking two Trust Doctors in Palliative Medicine (fixed term, 12 months) to join the inpatient medical team at Meadow House Hospice, based on the Ealing Hospital site within London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust.

As part of a well‑established, multidisciplinary specialist palliative care service for Ealing and Hounslow, you will deliver high‑quality, person‑centred care for patients with complex needs on our 15‑bed hospice ward. Core duties include holistic assessment, evidence‑based symptom management, active participation in weekly MDTs, clear documentation (Cerner/SystmOne), and facilitation of timely, safe transitions of care.

The post offers regular opportunities for teaching, participation in quality improvement/audit, and collaborative service development. You will join a 1:5 non‑resident on‑call rota with consultant support (planned commencement 2026).

Applicants must be GMC‑registered and demonstrate at least 12 months’ experience caring for patients with palliative and end‑of‑life needs, alongside excellent communication and teamworking skills that reflect our HEART values.

Primary base is Meadow House Hospice, with close links to hospital and community teams across LNWH.

• Provide specialist palliative medical care to patients on the 15-bed inpatient unit at Meadow House Hospice, including holistic assessment, symptom management, and end-of-life care.
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, actively participating in weekly ward MDT meetings and supporting collaborative decision-making for complex cases.
• Undertake timely and accurate documentation using Cerner and SystmOne electronic systems, ensuring compliance with Trust and GMC standards.
• Support safe and effective transfers of care, liaising with community, hospital, and primary care colleagues as needed.
• Participate in a 1:5 non-resident on-call rota (consultant supported), providing out-of-hours advice and medical cover for the inpatient unit.
• Contribute to service development, quality improvement projects, and clinical governance activities within the palliative care team.
• Take part in the education and training of medical and non-medical staff, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate learners.
• Maintain professional development through appraisal, revalidation, and mandatory training.
