Summary
The GP Practice Receptionist plays a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality primary care services. Acting as the first point of contact for patients, the post holder will provide a professional, welcoming and efficient reception service while ensuring confidentiality and sensitivity at all times. Key Responsibilities: Receive and assist patients in person and via telephone in a courteous, calm and professional manner Manage appointment bookings, cancellations and enquiries using the clinical computer system Signpost patients appropriately to clinicians, services or other healthcare professionals Process patient registrations, update records and maintain accurate patient information Handle prescription requests in line with practice procedures Deal with general administrative tasks including correspondence, scanning and filing Support clinicians and the wider practice team to ensure the smooth running of the surgery Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with data protection and information governance requirements Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive team environment Adhere to all practice policies, procedures and NHS standards Person Specification (Summary): Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Good organisational skills with attention to detail Ability to remain calm and professional in a busy environment Confident using IT systems and willing to learn new software Flexible, reliable and able to work as part of a team Previous GP or healthcare reception experience desirable but not essential as training will be provided This role offers the opportunity to work within a supportive GP practice where staff development, teamwork and patient care are highly valued.
