Summary

We are looking for a hardworking and passionate cook to prepare a balanced, healthy nutritious and tasty diet for the children, following the specifications set in Goulton Grange Day Nursery seasonal menus.

The Nursery Cook adheres to the policies and procedures of Goulton Grange Day Nursery and complies with the Environmental Health Food Safety, Health and Safety guidelines to contribute towards ensuring highest possible Regulatory Inspection grading. To prepare fresh meals and snacks on a rotational menu and to ensure that allergy management systems are in place. You will work under the supervision of the Nursery management team.

Key Responsibilities:
• Prepare and cook fresh, nutritious meals in line with EYFS welfare requirements
• Ensure all dietary needs, allergies, and intolerances are fully catered for and recorded
• Maintain a clean, safe kitchen environment in accordance with Food Safety Act, Safer Food Better Business, and Environmental Health standards
• Manage menu planning, food ordering, stock control, and portion control
• Follow nursery policies and procedures, including safeguarding, health and safety, and infection control
• Work in partnership with nursery staff to promote children’s health and wellbeing
• Ensure good general housekeeping ensuring relevant paper work is completed in line with Safer Food, Better Business procedures and carry out cleaning duties as necessary
• Light domestic duties in line with the overall role

Desired skills:
• Previous experience in a catering role (essential)
• Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (essential or willingness to obtain)
• Knowledge of nutrition for young children (desirable)
• Understanding of safeguarding and EYFS welfare requirements

• Patience and calmness under pressure (busy mealtimes, last-minute changes)
• Creativity in making healthy food appealing to children
• A caring attitude and genuine interest in children’s wellbeing
• Reliability and consistency, as children thrive on routine - including mealtimes
• Ability to build good relationships with children, staff and parents/carers
• Ability to work well with and fit into the staff team

Desired qualifications:
• Level 2 Food Hygiene & Safety Certificate
• Enhanced DBS Check

Things to consider:
We are based on a farm and not near any public transport, so you will need to be able to arrange your own transport.

Expected hours:
• 20-25 hours, Monday - Friday, hours to be confirmed
