Summary
Job Title: Pharmacy Technician Hours: Up to 37.5 hours per week Full time Contract: Permanent Location: Len Valley Practice Reports to: Practice Manager Accountable to: Partners of Len Valley Practice Job Purpose To work with the Dispensary Lead, Prescription Clerks and the practice-based Clinical Pharmacist to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and efficient repeat prescribing systems. The post holder will support medicines optimisation, respond to medication queries and contribute to improving prescribing safety, quality and cost-effectiveness. The role will also support the training and development of prescription clerks and dispensary staff, including up to NVQ Level 2 and pre-registration technician level.Main Duties and Responsibilities Main Duties and Responsibilities Medicines Management and Prescribing Support Undertake medicines reconciliation in line with practice protocols and update patient records accordingly. Support the achievement of prescribing-related Quality and Outcomes Framework targets. Work with the Clinical Pharmacist and Lead Dispenser to review and develop repeat prescribing systems, protocols and SOPs. Provide advice to GPs, staff and patients on prescribing changes to improve safety, quality and value for money. Participate in medication audits and quality improvement activity. Assist with monitoring and management of prescribing budgets and liaise with the local medicines management team. Prepare evidence-based resources to support safe, effective and cost-efficient prescribing. Support medication reviews and provide patient information to promote medicine awareness. Take a proactive approach to prescription safety, identifying risks and recommending improvements. Respond professionally to medication queries, escalating appropriately in line with practice policy. Support safe sourcing and management of medicines. Assist with claims for personally administered drugs. Support recall processes for medication reviews, including patients on monitored dosage systems, ensuring appropriate coding and prescription issuing. Organise and manage own workload to meet deadlines. Administrative and Team Responsibilities Take messages and pass on information appropriately. Undertake accurate data entry and record keeping in line with practice procedures. Initiate and respond to requests from patients, colleagues and external healthcare professionals. Maintain tidy, safe working areas. Promote a positive, patient-focused culture. Contribute to a supportive and collaborative team environment. Undertake other duties appropriate to the role as required. Duties may vary according to service needs and will be reviewed in line with practice priorities. Patient Services Deliver pharmaceutical care that supports high-quality, cost-effective prescribing. Assist partners with monitoring prescribing activity and budgets. Support the development of new systems and ways of working to optimise prescribing quality and safety.
