Autism, Speech & Language Needs, SEMH | Temp & Temp-to-Perm Roles

A welcoming SEND school in Burnley is looking for an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join their support team. This role is ideal for someone who has previously worked with children with special educational needs in a school setting and is confident supporting pupils with a range of additional needs.

About the Role

You will play a key part in helping pupils access learning by:

Supporting children on a 1:1 basis as well as in small group interventions
Using tailored strategies to assist pupils with speech, language and communication difficulties, including non-verbal learners
Supporting children with autism, sensory needs, and social/communication challenges
Managing and responding to challenging behaviour, including SEMH-related needs
Working closely with class teachers and SENCOs to adapt activities and create an inclusive, supportive learning environment
Encouraging pupils to build confidence, independence and positive learning habits
What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

Experience working with SEN pupils in a school environment (essential)
Strong understanding of autism, communication needs and behaviour support
Patience, empathy and the ability to build trusting relationships
A calm, consistent approach to behaviour and emotional regulation
A proactive attitude and genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
