Sensing Change is a specialist team within Adult Social Care at Suffolk County Council, dedicated to supporting individuals with sight and/or hearing loss across the county. We deliver a comprehensive range of services, including Social Work & Assessment, Vision Rehabilitation and tailored Sensory Support. Our focus is on early intervention and prevention, enabling people to maintain and enhance their independence.
We are excited to announce that we are now looking for two Vision Independence Practitioners to join us. These posts will work within our Rehabilitation Team, providing interventions to people to enable them to adapt to their sight loss and the impact that this has on their lives. You will be supported to develop in your role and training will be available, as well as mentoring from experienced and supportive staff within Sensing Change.
Your role and responsibilities
- You will assess, plan and deliver low level independence skills to people with sight loss or dual sensory loss
- You will offer information, advice, guidance and support to enable people with sight loss to live as independently as possible
- You will support individuals, carers and their families and work alongside colleagues within Sensing Change and ACS, as well as partner organisations when required.
- Training will be provided to further develop skills.
You will need
- Good standard of education
- An awareness of the issues facing individuals with sight loss will also be valuable to bring to the role.
- Ability to verbally explain and describe accurately.
- Ability to work as an effective, reliable, flexible and supportive team member.
- A passion for improving the lives of people who access our services.
