TeacherActive are currently working with a range of supportive and welcoming schools across the West Midlands who are seeking experienced SEND HLTA’s to join their teams. These roles involve delivering planned lessons, providing targeted SEND intervention and supporting pupils with a variety of needs including ASD, SEMH, MLD, ADHD, and complex needs.

As an SEND HLTA, you will:

• Deliver pre‑planned lessons in the absence of the class teacher.
• Work 1:1 or with small groups to deliver targeted SEND interventions.
• Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation and behaviour.
• Adapt learning materials to meet individual needs and EHCP targets.
• Assist teachers and senior leaders in assessing pupil progress.
• Build strong, positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
• Help create an inclusive, safe and enriching learning environment.

We are looking for candidates who have:

• Previous experience working with children with SEND (school, SEN provisions or similar).
• Experience delivering lessons, running interventions, or covering classes.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Confidence managing behaviour using positive, de‑escalation strategies.
• A patient, nurturing and resilient approach.
• The ability to work collaboratively and independently.

Preferred Qualifications

• HLTA qualification (Level 4 or equivalent).
• Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
• SEN‑specific training such as Autism Awareness, Team Teach, SEMH, PECS or Makaton.
• Degree or further training in Education, Psychology or related fields.
