Support Through Sport CIO, based in Nottingham, delivers sport-based intervention, mentoring, and youth work programmes to thousands of disadvantaged young people, empowering them to develop pro-social behaviours and providing a lasting positive impact within underserved communities.
The organisation works to a Theory of Change which ultimately provides at-risk young people with protective factors, diverting them away from negative influences such as youth offending, ASB, violence, gang culture and knife crime. Through an innovative, youth-led approach, Support Through Sport harnesses the power of sport to empower disadvantaged youth and create safer communities, where young people can thrive.
Role Overview
Support Through Sport CIO is seeking a highly motivated and organised individual to deliver detached and outreach youth work across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. You will work with young people aged 10–17 in community settings, building trusting relationships and providing early intervention to reduce risks linked to crime, violence, and exploitation.
The role combines youth work, mentoring, and community engagement, supporting young people to tackle challenges such as unemployment, drugs, poverty, discrimination, and community pressures. You will act as an advocate for young people, bridging gaps with the wider community while promoting respect, empowerment, and positive life choices.
At Support Through Sport, we use a range of creative approaches, including sport as a diversionary tool, to build brighter futures and safer communities. Flexibility is essential, as sessions often take place during evenings, weekends, and key local events.

Position: Targeted Youth Practitioner - Detached Youth Work
Reporting To: Senior Targeted Practitioner - Detached Youth Work
Hours: Part time (sessional)
Contract: Part Time, 6 month probationary period
Rate Of Pay: £14 per hour + expenses
Roles and Responsibilities
Deliver detached youth work sessions in targeted communities, building trust-based relationships with young people in informal settings.
Identify and support young people at risk of involvement in crime, violence, or exploitation through early intervention, mentoring, and guidance to encourage positive behaviours, respect, and personal development.
Support and challenge young people’s attitudes and actions towards issues such as unemployment, drugs, poverty, racism, sexism, disability, health, sexuality, criminality, and peer, parental, and community pressures.
Actively engage with hard-to-reach and disengaged young people through consistent outreach, group sessions, and thematic activities that address needs such as wellbeing, education, or diversion from negative influences.
Work collaboratively with local partners including schools, police, social care, and community organisations to safeguard young people, coordinate support, and contribute to multi-agency meetings and risk assessments.
Act as an advocate for young people within the wider community, bridging gaps in understanding and fostering stronger relationships built on mutual respect.
Respond to local emerging needs and ensure cover is in place for key dates such as bank holidays, festivals, and community events (e.g. Bonfire Night, Halloween).
Maintain accurate records of interactions, interventions, and outcomes using agreed case management systems, while adhering to safeguarding procedures and organisational policies.
Represent the organisation at community events and outreach activities, promoting our work to young people and the wider public, and supporting progression into education, training, or employment.
Work flexible hours including evenings and weekends to meet young people where they are.
