Role overview
About us.
PA is the UK and Ireland’s trusted national news agency, delivering 24/7 multimedia journalism and content to newsrooms,
publishers and platforms around the world.
PA Puzzles is part of PA Media Group and provides high-quality puzzles content for a wide range of regional, national and
international titles, in both print and digital formats. From crosswords to quizzes, our work reaches millions of readers every
day.
We’re proud of our inclusive culture, where collaboration and individuality are valued. If you need any adjustments during the
recruitment process, please let us know, we’re happy to help.
About the role.
We’re looking for a meticulous and creative Sub Editor to join our Puzzles team, helping to produce engaging, accurate and
page-ready puzzles for print and digital publication.
This is a role for someone who loves detail as much as ideas. You’ll be responsible for creating and checking puzzles, producing
finished pages using InDesign, and ensuring every product meets PA Puzzles’ quality and style standards. From the first clue to
final delivery, you’ll play a key role in making sure our puzzles are fun, challenging and flawless.
You’ll work closely with colleagues across a remote team, managing your own workload to meet regular deadlines while also
contributing to one-off projects and providing cover when needed. If you enjoy problem-solving, precision and creative content
production, this could be an ideal next step in your editorial career.
The role is initially offered on a 12-month fixed-term contract, with the intention of reviewing the position with a view to
extension or permanency, subject to business requirements.
What you’ll need.
* A strong eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy at every stage of production
* The creativity to generate fresh, engaging puzzle content to a strict brief
* Confidence working with style guides and customer-specific requirements
* Excellent proofreading skills and the ability to spot errors quickly
* Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote team
* The ability to manage your own workload, juggle multiple deadlines and work flexibly
Nice to have.
* Experience creating crosswords, quizzes or other puzzles
* Editorial or sub-editing experience
* Familiarity with Adobe InDesign and the wider Adobe suite
* Experience with JavaScript, macros, automation or simple coding
What we offer.
* 25 days’ holiday plus a holiday purchase scheme
* Annual wellbeing day
* Annual volunteering day
* Eye care vouchers
* BUPA health cash plan
* Life assurance (4× salary)
* Employee Assistance Programme
