Summary

About the Client
Pembrokeshire County Council’s Children’s Services operate within the Social Services & Housing directorate, delivering statutory support to children, young people and families. The Child Care Assessment Team (CCAT) plays a central role in safeguarding, assessment and early intervention, working under the Social Services and Well‑Being (Wales) Act 2014 and associated codes of practice.

The Role
These positions sit within the Child Care Assessment Team, undertaking statutory assessments, child protection work, court work and family support interventions. The role requires strong professional judgement, effective caseload management and the ability to work within statutory timescales. Office‑based working is essential due to participation in the S.47 Joint Investigation rota, with opportunities for home‑working when writing assessments.

Key Responsibilities
Complete high‑quality assessments within statutory timescales.

Undertake child protection investigations and contribute to S.47 enquiries.

Manage a varied caseload, including higher‑end Child in Need cases and Court work.

Participate in the S.47 JI rota alongside another Social Worker each day.

Work with children, young people and families to identify needs and develop effective support plans.

Contribute to safeguarding practice and multi‑agency working.

Ensure compliance with the Social Services and Well‑Being (Wales) Act 2014 and related guidance.

Maintain accurate, timely case records and reports.

Engage in reflective practice and contribute to the development of the CCAT service.

Candidate Requirements
Qualified Social Worker with registration to practice.

Experience in statutory children’s services, including assessment and child protection.

Ability to manage complex caseloads and meet statutory deadlines.

Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and multi‑agency working.

Confident in undertaking S.47 enquiries and Court‑related work.

Ability to work office‑based due to rota requirements, with some flexibility for home‑based report writing.

Excellent communication, analytical and report‑writing skills.
