DWP. Digital with Purpose.
We are looking for an Infrastructure Engineer for our Identity Security team to join our community of tech experts in DWP Digital.
We're using fresh ideas and leading-edge tech to build and maintain digital solutions that will be used by nearly every person in the UK, every day and at key moments in their lives.
DWP is the UK's largest government department. We help people into work and make payments worth over £195bn a year to support and empower millions of people.
The scale of what we do is extraordinary, and our purpose is unique. We'd love you to join us.
What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?
- Experience of working with Active Directory, Entra ID, MFA technologies.
- Experience and knowledge of onboarding applications to Entra ID eg. Enterprise Applications.
- Practical experience and knowledge in scripting languages for automation eg. PowerShell, Bash, Azure CLI.
- Experience of implementing and working with Privileged Access Management systems and RBAC eg. Azure Privileged Identity (PIM) Management or CyberArk PAM.
- Knowledge and experience of working with Secrets Management.
- Proven ability to operate effectively within complex environments, collaborating across multidisciplinary teams and managing relationships with multiple suppliers.
You and your role
As an Infrastructure Engineer, your day is all about making sure people can securely access the systems they need, when they need them. You'll spend time working with identity platforms like Active Directory and Entra ID, keeping authentication running smoothly and improving how sign in, access and permissions are managed across the organisation. One moment you might be tuning SSO or MFA, the next you'll be dealing with certificates, secrets and encryption keys to keep everything locked down and compliant.
You'll work across cloud environments such as Azure, AWS and OCI, integrating identity services so users, devices and applications all authenticate securely. A big part of the role is automation, using PowerShell, APIs and infrastructure‑as‑code to make identity processes faster, safer and more reliable. You'll also help shape and deliver a new identity governance capability, designing access controls, reviews and policies that reduce risk and support compliance.
Throughout the day, you'll collaborate with security teams, engineers and stakeholders across the business, translating security requirements into practical identity solutions that actually work in the real world.
