Summary

Tower Hamlets Shared Lives is an alternative to traditional types of care and support available to adults with a learning disability.
In Shared Lives, a person lives, stays, or spends some time with a Shared Lives Carer within the local community, using the Carer's home as a base.
The person is supported to maximise their potential and maintain their sense of independence, according to their individual needs.

We are looking for Carers to provide the following types of support:

• Long term placement - you will have a supported person(s) live on a long-term basis with you, becoming a part of your family and/or personal network.
You will receive a weekly income of between £600 and £800 for each person you support. This includes care fees, rent payment and utilities contribution.

• Respite - you can have one or more supported person(s) stay with you overnight or for a short time.
Earn between £82 and £106 per night for each person you support.

• Day support - you would spend a day/s or a few hours a week with one or more supported person. Earn up to £88 for providing 6 hours of support per person.
You need to live in or near Tower Hamlets to provide day support.
Please contact your local Shared Lives scheme if you live outside of the borough.

Shared Lives Carers can support up to three people at any one time.

Respite and long-term Shared Lives Carers will need at least one spare bedroom, depending on how many people you are intending to support.
If interested in providing respite or long-term support, you can also live outside of Tower Hamlets.

You do not need direct experience in a 'caring' role - Shared Lives Carers are ordinary people from the local community (although being Carers makes them extraordinary!).
Shared Lives Carers are self-employed and are paid for the support they provide, and can take advantage of generous tax breaks. All Carers go through a thorough assessment process to ensure they are suitable for the role, and they can offer a safe and appropriate home environment for caring. You will be carefully matched with someone based on shared values and interests.

Being a Shared Lives Carer is an extremely rewarding role, and we are always looking for new carers to join. It can be your full-time role or you can work flexibly on top of existing work or caring commitments — with full training and support every step of the way.

Here’s what to expect of the recruitment process:
• You contact us via the link at the bottom of the page. We contact you to find out a bit more about you and explain the role. If appropriate, we would arrange to visit you at your home.
• You send in your application form – a simple way for you to tell us a little about yourself and what support you wish to provide.
• We complete checks – including references, a DBS (criminal record check), a health check, and a health and safety check to make sure everything is safe and secure.
• Assessment – one of our friendly team will complete home visits with you exploring your experience, your home, and how Shared Lives could work for you.
• Approval panel – once everything is complete, your assessment will be shared with an independent panel who will confirm your approval as a Shared Lives Carer.
