Summary
Job Purpose:
To be responsible to the Senior Lawyer for the conduct of legal work in respect of matters allocated in the Housing & Litigation Team in relation to Licensing & Prosecution matters.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct legal work on matters allocated by the Senior Lawyer within the Housing & Litigation Team
Manage a caseload relating to Licensing and Prosecution, including investigations and enforcement action
Prepare legal documents such as notices, summonses, witness statements, pleadings, and court bundles
Represent the Council in court and tribunal proceedings where appropriate
Provide legal advice and support to Council officers, departments, and stakeholders
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and council policies
Liaise with internal departments, external agencies, counsel, and court services
Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records and documentation
Support senior legal staff in complex cases as required
Contribute to the efficient operation of the Legal Services team and meet service deadlines
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Law degree or equivalent legal qualification
Experience working within Housing Law, Litigation, Licensing, or Prosecution
Experience handling a legal caseload in a local authority or similar public sector environment
Knowledge of relevant legislation affecting housing, licensing, and enforcement
Ability to prepare legal documentation and court papers to a high standard
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines
Good organisational and time-management skills
Strong attention to detail and professional judgement
Desirable Criteria
Experience representing a local authority in court or tribunals
Knowledge of local government legal frameworks and procedures
Experience using legal case management systems.

This Job has a Start Date of 18/01/2026 and will end on the 18/06/2026. 35 hours a week. 9:00-17:00.
