About The CatchUp Academy

The CatchUp Academy is a specialist tuition provider working with children and young people who require personalised, one-to-one educational support. We work in partnership with local authorities, schools, alternative provisions, and families to support learners who are unable to access mainstream education or who require additional intervention to re-engage with learning.

Our tutors play a vital role in helping students rebuild confidence, develop independence, and make meaningful academic and personal progress.

The Role

We are seeking dedicated, patient, and adaptable 1-to-1 Tutors to support learners across Newcastle and the surrounding areas. Tuition is delivered face-to-face (in the home, school, or community settings) and occasionally online.

You will plan and deliver tailored sessions that meet each learner's academic, emotional, and behavioural needs, helping them to re-engage with education at their own pace.

Students You Will Support

Our learners often have complex needs, including:

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- ADHD
- Dyslexia and other learning difficulties
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

Students not currently in mainstream education, including:
- Those on reduced timetables
- Students awaiting school placements
- Learners accessing alternative provision or EOTAS packages

Children and young people who may:
- Have experienced school refusal or anxiety
- Lack confidence in learning
- Have significant gaps in education
- Need help re-establishing routines and engagement

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, personalised 1-to-1 tuition aligned to the student's ability and needs
- Adapt teaching strategies to suit different learning styles and SEN profiles
- Support emotional regulation, confidence, and positive learning behaviours
- Plan sessions that balance academic learning with engagement and wellbeing
- Provide regular feedback and progress updates to The CatchUp Academy team
- Maintain accurate session records and reports
- Follow all safeguarding, health & safety, and data protection policies

Essential Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN, SEMH, or additional needs
- Strong understanding of differentiated and trauma-informed approaches
- Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with vulnerable learners
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Reliability, patience, and flexibility
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- Right to work in the UK

Desirable (but not essential)
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE, or teaching assistant qualification
- Experience in alternative provision, SEND schools, or youth work
- Subject specialisms (English, Maths, Functional Skills, Primary, GCSE, etc.)
- Experience delivering EOTAS or local authority tuition packages
