The Head of Transport leads the end‑to‑end transport operation across a fast‑moving food and FMCG network. The role ensures safe,
efficient, and cost‑effective movement of goods while maintaining exceptional service levels to retail, wholesale, and
direct‑to‑consumer channels. It combines strategic planning with hands‑on operational oversight to keep a high‑volume,
time‑critical supply chain running smoothly.

Day to Day

* Strategic transport leadership: Develop and deliver the transport strategy aligned with business growth, customer expectations,
and regulatory requirements.
* Operational performance management: Oversee day‑to‑day transport operations, ensuring on‑time delivery, vehicle utilisation,
and cost efficiency.
* Team leadership and development: Lead transport managers, planners, and drivers; build a high‑performance culture focused on
safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
* Compliance and safety governance: Ensure full adherence to food safety standards, vehicle legislation, driver hours, and
company policies.
* Budget and cost control: Manage transport budgets, analyse cost drivers, and implement initiatives to reduce spend without
compromising service.
* Carrier and supplier management: Oversee relationships with third‑party logistics partners, negotiate contracts, and monitor
service levels.
* Continuous improvement: Drive optimisation projects across routing, scheduling, fleet utilisation, and technology adoption.
* Cross‑functional collaboration: Work closely with warehousing, supply chain planning, customer service, and commercial teams to
ensure seamless end‑to‑end flow.
* Crisis and contingency planning: Lead response plans for disruptions such as vehicle breakdowns, weather events, or supply
shortages.




What will you bring?

* Extensive transport management experience within food, FMCG, or other time‑critical, high‑volume environments.
* Strong knowledge of compliance including food safety, vehicle regulations, and driver legislation.
* Proven leadership capability with experience managing large teams and multi‑site operations.
* Commercial and analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and drive cost‑effective decisions.
* Experience with transport systems such as TMS, telematics, route optimisation tools, and fleet management platforms.
* Excellent stakeholder management with the ability to influence at all levels.
* Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, constantly changing environment.
