The Role:

We are seeking an experienced, knowledgeable, and passionate Class Teacher/SENCo to join our team. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to lead on the provision for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring all children receive high-quality, inclusive learning experiences. You will work closely with the Head Teacher/SENCo, Assistant Head Teacher, and wider staff team to promote the best outcomes for children with social communication difficulties, autism, and sensory processing challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

In addition to carrying out the professional duties of a school teacher as set out in the current Pay and Conditions of Service Documents, including those duties particularly assigned to you be the Head Teacher, the Teacher and SENCo shall meet the Professional Standards for Teachers (Core and Post Threshold) by carrying out the following duties:

• Lead and develop the SEND provision within the Nursery, including the Resourced Provision to ensure inclusive practice, following the graduated approach to ensure that all needs are met.
• Under the direction of the Head Teacher, allocate duties and responsibilities to staff in line with SEND support.
• Support and advise staff on best practice for children with SEND, including those with social communication difficulties, autism, sensory processing difficulties, and other additional needs.
• Ensure high-quality assessment, planning, and intervention strategies are in place for children with SEND.
• Work closely with parents, external agencies, and professionals to provide cohesive support for children’s development and learning.
• Promote inclusive practices across the school and provide training and guidance to staff on SEND-related strategies and interventions.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date SEND records, including contributing to Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) and individual learning plans.
• Contribute to the school’s ethos, vision, and strategic development of SEND provision.
• Support the development of children’s social, emotional, and communication skills, including understanding and implementing Attention Autism approaches where appropriate.
• To have high expectations for all children which enable them to be inspired, motivated and challenged.

Essential Experience and Skills:

• Proven experience working with children with SEND, particularly those who are autistic or have social communication difficulties.
• Knowledge and understanding of SEND legislation, Early Years Frameworks, and inclusive practice.
• Experience of supporting children with sensory processing difficulties and implementing effective strategies.
• Experience in assessing, planning, and delivering provision for children with complex needs.
• An understanding of Trauma Informed practice and its impact on early childhood development.
• Familiarity with Attention Autism approaches is highly desirable.
• Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to support, guide, and train colleagues.
• Commitment to providing nurturing, inclusive, and engaging learning environments.
• Willingness to share expertise, skills and knowledge with others.
• Willingness to attend local network meetings and training sessions.
