About the role
We are looking for a Reactive Maintenance Supervisor to work on the Southampton Highways Service Partnership across Southampton.
In this role you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of highway maintenance activities across Southampton. You’ll be based on-site, overseeing daily operations, supporting your team, and collaborating with both internal colleagues and external partners. This is a hands-on role where you’ll make a real difference to the safety and quality of Southampton’s highways.
What you'll be doing
- Health, Safety & Environment: Champion a culture of Zero Harm, ensuring all work is carried out safely and environmental risks are mitigated. Maintain site documentation and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Quality & Technical Supervision: Oversee a broad range of highway maintenance activities, ensuring works are completed right first time, to specification, and documented using digital platforms.
- Service Delivery: Issue clear work instructions, respond to emergency defects, and plan winter maintenance activities. Support out-of-hours operations when required.
- Team Leadership: Supervise operatives (direct labour and supply chain), provide on-site problem-solving, and build strong working relationships with subcontractors and external contractors.
- Customer Service: Represent Balfour Beatty positively in the public domain, support members of the public with enquiries, and prioritise safety for all.
- Financials: Responsible for cost control and accurate reporting within contract workstreams, with a good understanding of commercial contract mechanisms.
Who we're looking for
- Skills & Experience:
- Awareness of health and safety, safe systems of work, and risk elimination in a construction environment.
- Basic IT skills for using BIM/Confirm and construction management tools.
- Experience in minor civils, drainage, concreting, kerbing, road signs, pole installation, patch/pothole repairs, slabbing, asphalt laying, driving, and winter maintenance is desirable.
- Qualifications:
- Essential: NRSWA Supervisor, First Aid, Lantra T1/T2, CSCS (training can be provided).
- Desirable: L2 Winter Maintenance, Telescopic Handler, Telehandler, Confined Spaces, Deep Excavation.
