Summary
A Vacancy at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
This substantive consultant post will support the service needs of the Glaucoma Ophthalmology service. This will ensure the provision of a high-quality service, with the development and maintenance of standards through clinical audit, evidence-based research and appraisal.
The post is based at North Middlesex University Hospital. The team comprises; 1 Glaucoma Consultant, 1 Paediatric Consultant, 2 Medical Retina Consultants & 1 Oculo-plastic Consultant.
To deliver, develop and lead the Glaucoma service
To support the Ophthalmology unit in achieving its goal of high-quality eye
Care for the local population of North-East and East London
To participate actively in clinical trials, research and teaching
To train allied healthcare professionals (AHP) in extended roles
Increase capacity for new glaucoma referrals
Increase capacity for follow-up glaucoma patients
Support the development and delivery of a virtual glaucoma service
Provide surgical procedures including glaucoma shunt surgery
Trabeculectomies, MIGS surgery and introduce contemporary surgical glaucoma procedures
Work collaboratively with optometrists
Deliver specialist outpatient glaucoma clinics.
Manage complex glaucoma patients, providing high-level clinical expertise.
Perform advanced glaucoma surgeries, including trabeculectomy, glaucoma drainage devices, and MIGS.
Support rapid access glaucoma clinics as part of the regular timetable
Provide cataract surgery lists and manage in line with GIRFT recommendations.
Contribute to multidisciplinary team discussions and complex case management.
There is an expectation to be able to review at least 8 New patients or 10-12 F/U patients (depending on complexity) or a mix of New and Follow-up patients for each 4- hour session.
There is an expectation to be able to review at least 20 patients for a virtual glaucoma clinic per 4-hour session.
