The Opportunity An established architectural practice is seeking a skilled and motivated professional to take on a senior role leading the delivery of Principal Designer duties under both Building Regulations and CDM. This is a rare opportunity to work towards shaping the firm’s approach to health and safety compliance, with a clear career path towards Associate or Director level.
We would also welcome applications from professionals within building control, architecture, construction management, project consultancy and health & safety compliance.

The Role This role would suit candidates working as Building Control Surveyor, Clerk of Works, Project Manager, Health & Safety Consultant, CDM Advisor, Senior Architectural Technologist, Design Manager, Construction Manager, Building Surveyor, or Compliance Manager.

Your duties and responsibilities will be

- Overseeing and enhancing the practice’s procedures for Principal Designer duties, ensuring full compliance with CDM and Building Safety legislation.
- Providing leadership and technical advice across the project lifecycle, from design through to completion.
- Developing and maintaining robust QA and health & safety records for all projects, ensuring continuous monitoring and improvement.
- Supporting project teams with training and CPD activities focused on safety, risk management, and regulatory changes.
- Representing the practice at client, design team, and site meetings, promoting best practice in design safety and compliance.

You will have the following qualifications and experience

- Proven background in design, building control, project management, or health & safety within the construction industry.
- In-depth knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022, Secondary Legislation 2023, and related Gateway processes.
- Strong understanding of risk management, design safety principles, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and guide multidisciplinary teams.
- A methodical, detail-oriented approach combined with high professional and ethical standards.
