Summary

Communication Ensure excellent communication with clients carers, demonstrating ability to deliver difficult diagnoses and prognosis with tact and empathy, managing distressed or aggressive clients or carers. Demonstrate skills in dealing with challenging behaviour, such as Alzheimers disease, depression and aggressiveness of clients or carers/relatives. Take a lead role as an Occupational Therapist at interdisciplinary meetings to ensure that the appropriate occupational therapy elements are integrated in the overall patient management plan. Liaise and maintain good communication with all professionals and agencies involved in the care of each patient to ensure a seamless service. To provide complex written reports and attend case conferences as required. Build and maintain effective communication networks with patients, carers, the interdisciplinary team and other health workers and agencies. Network nationally across other rehabilitation providers and educators for the development of best practice. Promote awareness of the role of Occupational Therapy and the CINSS service. To be consulted as an expert source of information by the team seeking advice/information. Demonstrate highly developed persuasive, motivational and reassuring skills to achieve patient co-operation, attain set goals and facilitate patients to manage their condition independently. Provide and receive complex and sensitive information, verbally, written and /or electronically (where available), to and from consultants, GPs, patients, colleagues, other members of the MDT and other agencies. Analytical and Judgemental Skills / Freedom to Act To have advanced knowledge of stroke/neurological conditions. To have general knowledge of models of practice and their application with this patient group; to enable the training of others (including carers) to a given competency. To be responsible to the Clinical Lead. Professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own workload, including the management of patients in your clinical care. Work to the standards set out within the College of Occupational Therapists and University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire Trust To be familiar with and adhere to the Policies and Procedures of the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire Trust and CINSS. Physical Skills To have moving and handling skills in order to move, position and treat patients with physical and cognitive impairments. To have the skills to use a keyboard to navigate Y drives and to write complex reports. Demonstrate highly developed dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory sense for assessment and manual treatment.
