As a Commercial Manager, you will develop and implement a commercial strategy that maximises opportunities for increased sales, volume, and price. You’ll coach and mentor a team of External Account Managers, ensuring they are empowered, innovative, and engaged in achieving outstanding results.
This is a full-time leadership position offering you the chance to make a significant impact within a dynamic, forward-thinking business.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Leading, coaching, and mentoring External Account Managers to drive innovation and high performance
- Setting challenging yet realistic goals to keep the team motivated and results-focused
- Securing long-term customer contracts to support sustainable business growth
- Driving sales volume growth through existing and new business opportunities, including cash sales
- Maximising lead generation and upselling across all product streams
- Developing strong working relationships across the wider business
- Achieving or exceeding budget and financial performance targets through effective cost control
- Analysing commercial information to identify opportunities and maintain a profitable mindset
- Ensuring the team builds strong knowledge of the market, including competitor activity, pricing, contacts, and contracts
- Tracking customer purchasing trends and implementing proactive solutions
- Ensuring full compliance with the Competition Act 1998 and all statutory requirements
- Contributing to business optimisation initiatives through practical, workable solutions
- Embedding and demonstrating Tarmac values throughout your team and activities
- Reviewing SLAs and KPIs to ensure effective service delivery
- Providing monthly key metrics and performance reports
- Conducting regular customer reviews to understand needs, address issues, and identify opportunities
- Supporting the wider leadership team by predicting challenges and implementing proactive solutions
- Benchmarking competitor strategies to ensure continuous innovation
- Carrying out customer satisfaction checks to compare expectations against real outcomes
What We’re Looking For
Knowledge & SkillsYou should have (or be willing to develop):
- A recognised leadership qualification
- A recognised concrete production–related qualification
- Proven leadership experience, including developing and supporting teams
- Strong record of meeting commercial targets and maximising opportunities
- Ability to negotiate, influence, and empower teams and customers
- Strong financial and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret information clearly
- Effective, adaptable communication skills
- Strong understanding of commercial levers and market behaviours
- Creative thinking and the ability to take a step back to review issues from broad perspectives
- Strong planning and organisational ability, anticipating obstacles and implementing solutions
