Summary

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WORKER - JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible to: The Charity Manager

Location: The Clockhouse, Long Ground, Greater Leys, Oxford

Working Hours: 25 Hours per week (a full working week being 37 hours) worked between Monday and Thursday, flexible working hours, including two early evening sessions, Occasional weekend work is required for this post.

Salary: Salary £30,000 per annum, pro rata (£20,000 per annum). More hours available during summer holiday/half terms and Easter Break.

Purpose of the Role:

The Community Development Worker will coordinate and deliver a range of community projects and activities across the Leys in line with the CDI’s strategic plan. Working closely with the Charity Manager, the postholder will build strong relationships with residents, partners and volunteers to ensure projects are well-planned, effectively delivered and have measurable impact.

Key Objectives

The post holder is to work with the Charity Manager to:

Coordinate and deliver activities and opportunities that enhance the lives of local Leys residents, as agreed in the CDI’s plans and Trustee meetings
Manage the day-to-day delivery of community projects that foster a stronger and more connected Leys community.
Maintain records and provide information to the Charity Manager to support administration, monitoring and reporting of CDI projects and activities.
Main Duties

1. Community Insight: Develop a thorough understanding of the Leys area and identify key issues, needs and opportunities by engaging directly with local residents and groups.

2. Activity Planning and Delivery: Plan, organise and deliver regular activities and targeted initiatives for children, young people, older people and families, ensuring they are responsive to local needs and aligned with CDI priorities.

3. Events: Coordinate one-off special events or outings

4. Partnership and Engagement: Build and maintain positive relationships with local residents, children, young people, families, community groups, statutory and partner organisations to strengthen collaboration and increase reach.

5. Funding Support: Support the Charity Manager by drafting sections of applications and providing data and evidence for bids and budgets.

6. Monitoring and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of activities, participation and outcomes; supply timely monitoring information to the Charity Manager to support reporting to trustees and funders.

7. Evaluation and Feedback: Gather feedback from participants, measure outcomes against objectives and contribute to project evaluations to inform future planning.

8. Promotion and Outreach: Assist in promoting CDI’s activities locally, including producing and sharing agreed content, distributing promotional materials and representing CDI at community events.

9. Compliance: Comply with the Leys CDI’s policies and procedures

10. Other Duties: Carry out any other duties appropriate to the post

IT Skills – mainly Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
