About the Client

Cardiff Council’s Resources Directorate provides high‑quality legal, financial and corporate support services across the organisation. The Legal Services team delivers expert advice and representation, ensuring the Council operates lawfully, efficiently and in the best interests of its residents.

The Role

Cardiff Council are seeking an experienced Procurement Solicitor to join their Legal Services team on an initial three‑month assignment, with the possibility of extension subject to service requirements and performance. This role will support the Council’s procurement activity, providing specialist legal advice and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and internal governance.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong legal expertise, leadership by example and the ability to uphold high standards of professional practice. You will be responsible for delivering clear, solution‑focused advice, inspiring confidence in clients and colleagues, and exercising sound judgement in complex matters. Effective resource awareness and responsibility for quality of work are essential.

Remote working is acceptable for this assignment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide specialist legal advice on procurement, contracts and commercial matters.

Support the Council in delivering compliant procurement processes and documentation.

Draft, review and negotiate a range of commercial and procurement‑related agreements.

Offer clear, practical solutions to complex legal issues.

Ensure high standards of professional practice and legal compliance.

Demonstrate leadership through quality of work, judgement and professional conduct.

Build strong working relationships with internal clients and colleagues.

Manage workload effectively, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of advice.

Candidate Requirements

Qualified Solicitor with demonstrable experience in procurement and commercial law.

Strong understanding of public sector procurement regulations and governance.

Proven ability to provide clear, confident and solution‑focused legal advice.

Excellent analytical, drafting and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to inspire confidence and maintain high professional standards.

Strong organisational skills and awareness of resource management.

Ability to work independently, including remotely, while contributing to team objectives.
