An opportunity has arisen to join an established enthusiastic and cohesive team in providing extended clinical cover to the Emergency Department at the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. The department is located within the modern 1100 bedded University Hospital opened in 2006. The Consultant team also provide support to the nurse-led Urgent Care Centre at the Hospital of St Cross, Rugby.

The well-staffed consultant rota is in response to the Trust’s status as a Major Trauma Centre (MTC) and recognises the central role of the Emergency Department in the delivery of this service. We provide 24-hour ED Consultant trauma team leadership, currently by means of a resident on-call rota arrangement.

The post-holder will be expected to work with other members of the Emergency Team to provide a world class clinical service in Emergency Medicine across adult, children and minor injury departments. The department supports annualised rostering and joint roles with Intensive Care Medicine, Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine, Paediatric Emergency Medicine, and Sports and Exercise Medicine, with several of the current consultants working in these areas as part of their job plan. We are also able to support less than full time working over fixed days or flexible across the week.

There has never been a better time to join our team.

As part of our commitment to patients and delivery of a world class service for all we have created the UHCW Improvement (UHCWi) System in partnership with the Virginia Mason Institute in Seattle; this involves a structured approach to removing waste and putting the patient first using a lean management system and methodologies. You are expected, where identified, to attend and complete relevant training and development opportunities to support this. This may include Lean for Leaders, Advanced Lean Training, and the Human Factors Programme, amongst others. Full attendance and completion of identified courses is considered essential and a prerequisite for this post.
