Personal Assistant – A Rewarding One-to-One Support Role
We are seeking a reliable, patient, and enthusiastic Personal Assistant to support a 20-year-old man with Autism to enjoy an active, fulfilling, and increasingly independent life.
This is a rewarding one-to-one role for someone who enjoys supporting others, building confidence, and encouraging independence. You will work closely with him and his family, following a personalised care and support plan, to help him achieve his social, communication, and life-skill goals in a supportive and positive way.

Your Role
As his Personal Assistant, you will support him to:
• Develop confidence, communication, and independence
• Work towards social goals and build interests outside the family home
• Learn practical life skills such as accompanied bus travel and accessing local services
• Take part in enjoyable activities including swimming, cinema trips, beach walks, and other outings
• Attend established voluntary placements within the community
Some support may occasionally take place in the family home, but the main focus is helping him engage confidently in the community.

Communication & Support Needs
He communicates using signing and an iPad. You will need to be able to sign or be willing to learn and support him in using his iPad to communicate with others. Encouraging independence while offering calm, consistent support is a key part of the role.

Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is kind, dependable, and motivated, and who genuinely enjoys supporting others to grow in confidence and independence.
You don’t need previous experience as a Personal Assistant — the most important qualities are the right attitude and a willingness to learn. You should be:
• Patient, calm, understanding, reliable and committed
• Positive and encouraging and comfortable working one-to-one.
• Willing to learn signing and alternative communication methods
• Able to encourage independence while offering appropriate support
• Confident communicating with family members and working as part of a small support team
Experience working with autistic individuals or in a care/support role is a plus, but not essential. You must also hold a full, clean driving licence, have access to a car with business insurance, and be flexible with agreed-upon working hours.

Main Duties of the role
• To work closely with his parents to ensure a consistent approach to support
• Always ensure his safety and wellbeing
• Never leave him unattended
• Support him with ordering meals and drinks while out
• Encourage and take part in activities
• Provide guidance to help develop everyday life skills
• Support attendance at social and community activities
• Keep the family updated on activities, progress, or any concerns
• Carry out any other reasonable duties related to his support

If requested by the employer, two satisfactory references must be provided. This post is subject to a trial period of 1 month and a probationary period of up to 6 months.
Wages will be paid in arrears on a 4 weekly basis once a valid National Insurance (NI) number has been provided. You must be eligible to work in the UK and your employer will conduct document checks prior to commencement.
You will receive the appropriate annual leave entitlement as well as all other statutory entitlements, details of which will be set out in your contract of employment. You will also be issued with a Personal Assistants Handbook when your employment commences.
You will be expected to undertake any mandatory training identified as relevant to this post. The cost of mandatory training will be met through the direct payment. Failure to attend mandatory training may result in your employment offer being withdrawn.
