Summary
The Housing Access Service is the front door to accessing housing advice and solutions in the city, including specific functions designed to prevent and alleviate homelessness and rough sleeping.
This role has been developed to respond to the unprecedented level of households needing temporary accommodation, with a specific focus on ensuring that the council has adequate levels of good quality, cost effective stock for this purpose.
An effective communicator, the post holder will work closely with colleagues and partners to build and maintain an adequate stock of temporary accommodation units, identifying pressures and trends to effectively plan future needs and priorities. They will be responsible for ensuring that the units are utilised to their maximum potential, minimising void and external temporary accommodation costs, which are subject to intense scrutiny.
The post holder will develop and maintain effective records for managing the units, reporting and future service charge calculation purposes. They will also establish systems to ensure that the operational teams, including those working out of hours, know at all times of available units, key locations and other vital information needed when placing customers in accommodation.
The post holder will be required to be able to travel between sites around the city, often at short notice and manage competing priorities - no two days will be the same.
They will be an advocate for the Housing Access Service, liaising with a wide range of colleagues, partners and contractors, and will also support immediate colleagues and their manager with temporary accommodation provision outside of the council’s ownership when required.
