SEND Specialist Teaching Assistant – Sheffield
We are looking for a patient, caring and confident Specialist Teaching Assistant to join an innovative and inclusive special school in Sheffield that supports neurodiverse young people aged 11–19. The school community values a safe, caring, creative and inspirational learning environment, where every young person feels they belong, has a voice and can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
What the Role Involves
As a Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with a range of communication, interaction, social, emotional and mental health needs. You will help pupils access a personalised curriculum designed to build confidence, resilience and real-world skills.
Your day may include:

Supporting pupils to access personalised learning across a broad and inclusive curriculum

Helping pupils engage with learning in ways that match their individual strengths and needs
-
Supporting communication, interaction and relationship-building throughout the school day
-
Working closely with teachers, therapists and specialist professionals
-
Assisting with structured routines, sensory experiences and social skills development
-
Providing mobility support and personal care where required
-
Encouraging independence, wellbeing and life skills
-
Creating a calm, respectful, and supportive learning environment

Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils and families
Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone who is genuinely passionate about working in a specialist setting, understands the importance of empathy and consistency, and believes every young person has potential.
The ideal candidate will have:

Experience supporting pupils with autism, communication needs and associated emotional behaviours

Confidence managing challenging behaviour with compassion and calm
-
A proactive, nurturing and patient approach
-
The ability to contribute positively as part of a whole-school team
-
An understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
-
Up-to-date Moving & Handling training
