The North East Regional Organised Crime Unit is one of nine Regional Organised Crime Units (“ROCU”) in England and Wales who lead the regional response to tackling serious and organised crime whilst supporting local and national delivery.
The role
We’re looking for a proactive and reliable individual to provide essential building and vehicle maintenance services, alongside ad-hoc driving duties, to support the operational needs of NEROCU. Your work will ensure a safe, functional, and professional environment for our staff and visitors, playing a vital role in enabling our teams to focus on tackling serious and organised crime.
In this hands-on role, you’ll carry out routine checks, basic repairs, and scheduled servicing for both buildings and vehicles, as well as respond to ad-hoc tasks that keep our operations moving. From maintaining facilities and equipment to supporting vehicle availability and providing efficient driving services, you’ll be a key part of ensuring everything runs seamlessly behind the scenes.
What you’ll do
- Maintain the building to ensure that staff and visitors using the buildings are provided with a safe and functional environment by undertaking all related building checks.
- Carry out basic repairs and maintenance including assessments of work to be undertaken, assigned testing, and scheduled servicing of the building and equipment to ensure that they are operational and safe.
- Undertake routine and ad hoc internal and external cleaning operations to provide a safe and functional environment for staff and visitors.
- Undertake office furniture moves and transfers to help ensure that NEROCU staff has the necessary equipment and supplies for their needs
What you’ll bring
- Excellent planning and organisational skills, prioritising workloads effectively, ensuring a high quality of service to our customers.
- You will be motivated and a self-starter, working independently to manage the workload.
- An understanding of health and safety.
- Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt to a variety of stakeholders.
- Confidence to manage expectations of numerous stakeholders and take personal responsibility for addressing any barriers to delivery.
- Competent with IT, able to input data onto the maintenance databases.
- This is a varied role where you’ll also provide support all staff across NEROCU. You’ll need to be flexible in your approach and able to manage a variety of people in different roles. You’ll also need a valid UK driving licence to travel between sites when required.

Terms of appointment
This is a permanent subject to a six-month probationary period.
