Summary

Job Title Reporting and Screening Support Sonographer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology Band 7 Managerial Reporting Responsibility Maternity Ultrasound Lead Sonographer Professional Reporting Responsibility Maternity Ultrasound Lead Sonographer Job Purpose The post-holder will have achieved CASE (Consortium for the Accreditation of Sonographic Education) accreditation as a Reporting Sonographer and will work as an autonomous practitioner who will be responsible for his/her professional practice and development. The postholder will support the department Lead in ensuring that junior staff are mentored and supported and that the day to day running of the department is in line with policies and procedures. The postholder will participate in the review and revision of scanning techniques and make recommendations regarding changes in practice and service improvements. PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Clinical Practice To use advanced clinical judgement to enable independent decision making and to independently undertake and interpret diagnostic imaging and to formulate and issue clinical reports. To assist in training of trainee sonographers and to act as a professional role model for junior staff. To ensure continuity of a high standard of evidence-based practice. To participate in the identification and development of clinical protocols and strategies relevant to the service. To participate in involving service users in providing feedback of their experience of the current service and suggestions for improvements. Formulating Departmental KPIs and data collation for national reporting requirements to meet the ANNBS standard (Antenatal and Newborn Screening) ready for submission/sign off by Screening Midwives. Responsible for the Sonography Audit to ensure images meet the required quality standards, rating them as set out in DQASS (Department for Quality Assurance) Managerial 1. Demonstrate excellent personal communication. Establish and maintain effective two-way communication channels with individuals and groups. Demonstrate appropriate assertiveness and ability to challenge others when the rights of patients and others may be infringed. 2. Ensure practice within Data Protection/Confidentiality/Caldicott principles. Actively promote diversity, including race diversity, in own practice. Generate and sustain relationships that promote dignity, rights and responsibilities. Identify and take action to address discrimination and oppression. Promote interdisciplinary working, with outcomes aimed at the best interest of patients. 5. Monitor and maintain the health, safety and security of self and others in work area. Identify and assess risks in work activities and develop strategies to manage these effectively. Work within risk management/Occupational Health legislation and Trust procedures. Clinical and Technical 1. Work effectively maintaining own specialist expertise and professional knowledge, sharing knowledge and expertise where required. 2. Place the patients experience at the core of service delivery. 3. Contribute to risk management process, incident reporting and management and management of complaints. Teaching, Training and Research Contribute to a culture within clinical environment which challenges and questions practice and promote the quality of thinking amongst practitioners. Contribute to the provision of an environment which supports the learning. Contribute to the implementation of the development of the service. Be aware of new evidence and research in both general and specialist fields incorporating knowledge into the service in order to facilitate delivery of high quality, evidence-based care. 4. Develop own skills, taking responsibility for continuing professional development and performance, maintaining own portfolio in accordance professional and post-accreditation requirements. 5. Identify own development needs in relation to current practice and future plans, setting personal development objectives.
