About the job.
National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Principal Operational Technology Architect to join our team in Digital Services. As a Principal Operational Technology Architect, you will shape and assure the enterprise perspective for the Operational Technology domain. You will use your technical expertise and stakeholder skills to both support colleagues and develop/own our technical specifications related to our OT products and systems, including site data configuration and signal sequencing.
This is an exciting and fast paced role that will allow you to collaborate with fellow specialists, improving the way in which NH utilises technology as well as providing key contributions and technical support to the delivery of major national infrastructure.
Please note this role can be based at any of our UK offices however occasional travel to regional offices, most commonly Birmingham, will be required.
- Lead and provide strategic direction for the technologies in your portfolio.
- Develop and maintain the suite of technology specifications for relevant products/systems to ensure they deliver the requirements for us to procure and implement the required solutions.
- Provide subject matter expertise and leadership to support, develop, and maintain the delivery of the overall OT strategy.
- Provide support to colleagues in Digital Operational Services, as they focus on optimising the performance of our Operational Technology.
- Along with your colleagues, help us develop product roadmaps for our operational technology end-to-end services, exploiting new technologies and driving innovation within operational technology.
- Drive proactive stakeholder engagement and relationship building both within the broader NH business and the supply chain.
About you.
- Experience across Operational Technologies in use by National Highways, such as: NMCS2, HATMS, DYNAC, ESB and Lane Signalling Manager (LSM).
- Knowledge of, or have worked with, the following: site data, signal sequencing, MIDAS, and DYNAC business rules.
- Experience of wider Intelligent Transport System technology, interfaces and protocols such as: UTMC, NTCIP, DATEX2, NMCS2.
- Possess an understanding of the functional safety of control systems.
- An understanding of legislative documents such as standards for highways/DMRB, OT specifications and/or the TOPAS library.
- Possess a good understanding of technical governance with the ability to participate in or supporting the assurance of a product or service is desirable.

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
