This post is being offered as a 10 PA post.

An indicative job plan is provided, though the exact job plan will be agreed between the NCA and the post holder on commencement.

In Oldham, The Northern Care Alliance provides health care both in hospital and community settings. The postholder will be based primarily in The Community.

The job plan is such as to allow exposure to other parts of the service and settings which will include the provision of reciprocal support to the hospital setting to in order cover planned absence etc.

The post holder will provide clinical leadership, diagnosis, management and treatment for patients with specialist palliative and end of life care needs; act as an expert resource for medical, nursing and other health care professionals across the Trust footprint; and be an active champion of high-quality palliative and end of life care both locally and across the region.

The post holder will complement and develop existing Palliative and End of Life Care services through the provision of specialist knowledge and expertise in Palliative Medicine. The post holder is therefore required to have full registration with the General Medical Council, a valid licence to practice and be on the specialist register for Palliative Medicine or be within 6 months of CCT or equivalent at the time of interview.

Clinical Duties: Palliative Medicine
• To provide Consultant clinical support and advice for the Trust’s Specialist Palliative and End of Life primarily across the Oldham Community footprint (and occasionally outside of this footprint), The Royal Oldham Hospital, and across other Teams within the Service as required.
• To provide general and specialist outpatient care to palliative/ End of Life patients.
• These duties may vary from year to year according to the evolution and development of the Service. (You will be expected to comply with such changes as agreed to by your fellow clinicians and yourself and expressly as agreed to in your annual review of your job description).
• There are currently no on-call or out-of-hour duties associated with this post, but this may be reviewed in future as the Trust establishes a 7-day Specialist Palliative and End of Life Care service across sites.
• To provide cover for consultant colleagues in respect of periods of leave in accordance with cross directorate arrangements and Trust policy and ensure that periods of leave do not coincide with those of your senior Palliative colleagues including the community SPC nursing lead and the Royal Oldham Hospital palliative consultant.
• To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for community staff involved in the care of palliative patients to be able to contact you as necessary during your working hours.
