Summary
Provide a customer-focused, high quality, responsive and specialist advisory service to managers and staff. Build strong, credible and visible relationships with managers and be viewed as a trusted advisor. Advise and assist managers on the interpretation and application of People Management policies and procedures ensuring a consistent and timely approach within designated areas seeking support from Senior ER colleagues for more complex queries. Provide timely, consistent and proactive professional ER advice in relation to sickness absence ensuring that best practice is applied. Provide advice and assistance to managers in the management of sickness absence to support their achievement of targets for the reduction of sickness absence rates. Support managers at formal sickness absence review meetings and presenting managers at hearings under the organisations Sickness Absence policy. Advise and support managers on ill-health retirement and the management of staff whose long-term conditions are likely to be covered by the disability provisions of the Equality Act 2010. Support employees in the redeployment process and identifying an alternative suitable role. Support managers to proactively manage sickness absence by reviewing monthly absence reports and identifying cases that have triggered and require appropriate action and interventions. Work in a co-ordinated and consistent way with other members of the ER team sharing and implementing good practice. To develop excellent working relationships with managers, staff and colleagues across the People & OD Directorate, supporting the ER team in providing a comprehensive and high quality service in line with Trust policies and procedures, with a focus on sickness absence management. Draft and review employment policies as required by the Head of ER and support in amending and updating existing policies ensuring their consistent and equitable implementation across the Trust. Assist with projects that support the delivery of strategy as directed by the Head of ER. Design, develop and deliver training to managers, employees and colleagues on ER related topics to enhance managers knowledge and skills. To design and deliver ad hoc training as required Liaise with any Freedom of Information/Subject Access requests, which the directorate has responsibility to respond to in a timely way, linking appropriately with governance and colleagues to track responses and obtain final sign off in relation to the response from respective leads. Undertake job matching and support the co-ordination of dates and relevant information for job matching panels and support the panels. High level diary management skills, including arranging and coordinating meetings and appointments, prioritising and rearranging. Provide high level administrative support to staff within the team/office. Work with ER Manager/ER Specialist and Head of ER in driving the Equality, Diversity, Inclusion agenda to improve Workforce Race Equality Standard (WRES) and Workforce Disability Equality Standard (WDES) data to support staff and become a more inclusive organisation. Provide regular reports on all ER activity and ensure the ER tracker is updated on at least on a weekly basis. Build good working relationships with Trade Union representatives and work with them to enhance positive ER within designated areas. Make arrangements for hearings and appeal hearings including arranging appropriate panel members (in accordance with Trust policies), booking rooms (if necessary) and sending notifications within the required timescales. Attend hearings and appeals to take notes where required to ensure that an accurate record of proceedings is kept. Maintain and develop knowledge on the application, interpretation and monitoring of up-to-date employment legislation, terms and conditions, policies and procedures, local and national HR strategy, in order to give advice and information to managers and employees. Build ER initiatives and practices based on trust, mutual respect, strong performance management and accountability and clear expectations from and support for employees. Work in conjunction with the ER Manager/ER Consultant and Senior ER Advisors to identify development needs of managers and supervisors regarding people management issues, aiming to improve people management capability and skills across the Trust, including assisting in the design and delivery of specific HR Skills Workshops/Training. Support with the implementation of ER policy, procedures and written guidance for managers and employees, enabling them to be applied consistently. Work with the ER colleagues to identify and anticipate future legal changes and understand and plan for the impact on Employee Relations practice at the Trust. To work with ER colleagues to share knowledge, experience and learnings to enable continuous improvement. Plan time and workload appropriately when managing own caseload ensuring clear project planning for investigations to ensure timescales are met and work is co-ordinated. To advise managers concerning NHS and local pay and terms and conditions of service. To carry out the day to day administration of the ER inbox and telephone hot line, responding to information requests To provide suggestions and make service improvement to support Plan time and workload appropriately when managing own caseload ensuring clear project planning to ensure timescales are met and work is co-ordinated. Participate in People & OD projects ensuring the projects are delivered within timescales. To provide support with People & OD committees/groups e.g. attending meetings to take notes and draft minutes and action points.To actively promote partnership working.
