About the Client
Barnet Council’s Youth Offending Service (YOS) sits within Family Services and plays a vital role in supporting young people who are at risk of offending or who have entered the youth justice system. The service works collaboratively with families, schools, police, courts and partner agencies to reduce reoffending, improve outcomes and promote safer communities.

About the Role
Due to a short‑term increase in workload, Barnet Council is seeking a Youth Offending Team Officer (Grade I) to support the delivery of high‑quality interventions for young people involved with the Youth Offending Service.

This is a non‑qualified social care role, but it requires strong experience working with vulnerable young people, excellent communication skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload. You will contribute to assessments, intervention planning, supervision sessions and multi‑agency work to support young people in making positive changes.

Key Responsibilities
Support the assessment, planning and delivery of interventions for young people involved in the youth justice system.

Manage a caseload under the guidance of senior practitioners and managers.

Work directly with young people to address offending behaviour, promote positive engagement and support their personal development.

Liaise with families, schools, police, courts and partner agencies to ensure coordinated support.

Prepare reports, case notes and documentation to required standards.

Attend multi‑agency meetings, court hearings and panel meetings as required.

Support the delivery of statutory youth justice services, including community orders and out‑of‑court disposals.

Promote safeguarding, risk management and positive outcomes for young people.

Contribute to performance monitoring and service improvement activities.

Candidate Requirements
Experience working with young people in a youth justice, social care, education, or community setting.

Strong communication and engagement skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly.

Ability to manage a caseload and work effectively under pressure.

Understanding of youth justice processes, safeguarding and risk management.

Confident working both independently and within a multi‑agency team.

Strong organisational skills and accurate record‑keeping.

Commitment to supporting young people to make positive changes.

Ability to work flexibly across office and remote settings.
