Summary
As an Accommodation Officer, you will play a vital role in managing temporary accommodation for households who are homeless. This is a varied position that combines practical, hands-on tasks with sensitive, people-focused responsibilities.
You will assist the Accommodation Team Leader in overseeing temporary and resettlement accommodation arrangements. Your duties will include facilitating clients moving in and out of properties, carrying out property inspections, and preparing accommodation so it’s ready for tenants. Preparation tasks may involve minor repairs and the use of power and hand tools, so confidence in practical work is essential.
Alongside this, you will provide advice and support to occupants, liaise with statutory agencies, and respond appropriately to complaints, problems, and anti-social behaviour. This means you’ll need to demonstrate empathy, resilience, and assertiveness while maintaining a caring and professional approach.
What we need from you:
Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with people from all backgrounds
Strong negotiation skills and a calm, composed approach to challenging situations
Problem-solving ability to find practical solutions for those facing housing difficulties
Confidence in carrying out minor repairs and using power tools
Competence with Microsoft Office, plus strong organisational skills to manage a complex caseload
This role involves regular travel across a wide rural district, with multiple site visits on a regular basis, so the ability to independently and reliably travel as part of your daily duties is essential.
If you’re enthusiastic, self-motivated, and ready to make a real difference to people’s lives while using your practical skills, we’d love to hear from you!
