Jami is seeking a compassionate and confident Befriending and Hospital Visiting Officer to join our Social Engagement Service.

In this rewarding role, you’ll support our Befriending and Hospital Visiting programmes—helping people affected by mental health challenges feel less isolated and more connected. You’ll build trusting relationships, match and support volunteers, and liaise with clients, families, and hospital staff. No two days are the same, offering variety and the chance to make a meaningful difference every day.

You must be an excellent listener and communicator, able to engage comfortably with people at any level.

This role involves travel across services and venues throughout North London.

Hours: 36.25 per week, Monday–Friday

Key Responsibilities
  • Support and monitor relationships between clients and volunteers
  • Coordinate hospital visits with volunteers and Chaplaincy teams
  • Carry out assessments and make referrals according to client needs
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers
  • Manage safeguarding concerns in line with Jami policy
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records
  • Promote services across Jami, Jewish Care, and community partners
About You
  • A strong, confident communicator who can engage with people at all levels
  • Experience supporting people within health and social care
  • Experience working with or as a volunteer
  • Strong organisational and IT skills
  • Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and risk
  • Warm, empathetic, and able to build trust quickly
  • Lived experience of mental illness or supporting someone with mental health challenges
