Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Refuge Key Worker to join our team supporting women and children who have experienced domestic abuse. You will play a vital role in helping survivors rebuild their lives by providing practical, emotional, and advocacy-based support within a refuge setting.
Key Responsibilities
Provide one-to-one, survivor-centred support to women and their children
Complete risk assessments, safety planning, and support plans
Support service users with housing, benefits, legal options, health, and education
Advocate on behalf of survivors with statutory and voluntary agencies
Maintain accurate case records and contribute to monitoring and reporting
Support residents to develop independence, confidence, and life skills
Ensure safeguarding policies and confidentiality procedures are followed
Work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners
About You
You will be:
Empathetic, non-judgemental, and trauma-informed in your approach
Confident working with women affected by domestic abuse
Organised, resilient, and able to manage challenging situations
Essential:
Experience working with vulnerable women and/or children
Strong understanding of domestic abuse and its impact
Ability to manage risk and safeguarding concerns
Excellent communication and record-keeping skills
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
Desirable:
Relevant qualification (e.g. IDVA, support work, social care)
Experience working in a refuge or supported accommodation setting
Knowledge of MARAC, safeguarding, and housing legislation
