Crynodeb

We’re seeking experienced, NMC-registered midwives who are passionate about midwife-led, family-centred care to join our friendly and dynamic Continuity Team at Chorley Birth Centre. As part of a trust offering four birth options, our newly renovated, standalone birth centre supports around 190 births annually—most under our continuity of care pathway.
You’ll work autonomously, managing your own caseload to provide safe, evidence-based care throughout pregnancy, labour, and the postnatal period. This includes risk assessments, referrals, and collaborative working with the wider multidisciplinary team. You’ll lead birth centre shifts, support colleagues, and foster a well-led, enthusiastic environment.

Confidence in facilitating physiological labour and birth is essential, including promoting optimal fetal positioning, upright birth, and water immersion. You’ll mentor junior staff, helping them develop these skills safely. Working closely with the Birth Centre Manager, you’ll ensure equitable, guideline-led care, take ownership of documentation and audits, and contribute to continuous improvement.

Supported by the wider team, the birth centre team:
• Manage their own caseloads of women/birthing people throughout the AN, IP and PN periods.
• Promotes fully informed choice and personalisation.
• Provide care according to agreed evidence-based standards and guidelines.
• Provide training and support to colleagues and attend/run skill drills to ensure up-to-date skills and practice.
• Are able to recognise deviations from the normal physiological processes of birth and escalate according to agreed guidelines.
• Take part in case reviews, multi-disciplinary learning and monitor performance and transfer rates through audit, ensuring sound clinical decision making.
• Monitor and continually review performance, effectiveness and user satisfaction.
• Share learning with other midwifery units, host visits from other midwives wishing to develop birth centre services, and arrange placements for student midwives and midwives wishing to develop their skills.
• Participate in research relating to midwifery units and national audit.

You will also work alongside specialist teams, obstetric and neonatal colleagues to ensure excellent care with compassion.

Within this role you will have the opportunity to take on further responsibilities, including; participating in audits, interviews, promoting our service, collecting data and staff rotas, allowing continuous professional development and understanding within midwifery led services.

We have 10000 fantastic people working hard to deliver quality services to our patients. Whatever your role, you help look after 370,000 people in our local area & give specialist care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire & Cumbria.

Working with us gives you the knowledge and sense of pride that every activity you do genuinely does make a difference to support our patients & staff, ensuring we keep thriving & delivering outstanding healthcare right across our local towns.

You’ll have access to varied development opportunities, learn new skills, meet fab people & do things you’d never have done. You’ll learn about working in a hospital, interacting with people from all different roles to build skills & enhance your career path.

You’ll make an impact, be challenged to think differently, be bold & help innovate to keep improving things. Everything we do centres around family care and enhancing their experience which means your role is pivotal and something really to be proud of.

If this is not enough…… we have a BIG PLAN to:
• consistently deliver excellent care
• create a great place to work
• deliver value for money
• ensure we are fit for the future
• Develop our staff to be the best they can be

We hope you can you see yourself being part of this dynamic team who really care about your career development, your ideas and your contribution to make our service the best it can be.

We have a very supportive leadership team who like to listen and encourage your ideas to help continue to make our services the best they can be.

You can chat with Laura Thorpe, our Matron for Midwifery Led Services or Corrie Maray, Continuity Team Leader. Their passion and commitment are second to none and we know you will quickly see the impact you will play in our service.

We regularly hold team meetings where your opinions and ideas can be heard, with specific action plans being made to continually improve our service within the Birth Centre and shaping the future of our organisation together.

You will uphold the values of the Trust which are fundamental to the care we provide ensuring evidence-based practice that strives to improve outcomes.
