Summary

Take the Lead: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) in Preston!

Are you an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) looking to step up and make a greater impact in the classroom? We are seeking confident and qualified individuals to join supportive primary schools in Preston starting in January 2026.

In a city with such a diverse and ambitious educational landscape, the role of an HLTA is vital. You will be the bridge between teaching and support, taking the lead on whole-class instruction during PPA time or teacher absences, while still providing the high-level intervention that helps students excel. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys the responsibility of leading a class but values the deep connections made through student support.

Responsibilities

  • Lead whole classes across the school (EYFS, KS1, or KS2) in the absence of the class teacher.

  • Plan and deliver learning activities, adapting them based on student needs and progress.

  • Support the teacher in monitoring, assessing, and recording student achievement.

  • Provide specialized small group interventions in Literacy and Numeracy.

  • Manage classroom behavior effectively, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the school day.

Essential Requirements

  • HLTA Status or a recognized equivalent qualification (Level 4 or above).

  • Proven experience leading whole classes in a primary school setting.

  • Strong curriculum knowledge across multiple Key Stages.

  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills.

  • Ability to be proactive, flexible, and use your own initiative.
