As a Transport Planner you will manage delivery, on time KPIs ensuring a cost-effective delivery of transport services.
As part of your key responsibilities you’ll:
* Create and maintain a cost-effective route plan, out of multiple sites/contracts across the UK to ensure high levels of service
measured against defined KPIs
* Identify chances for inter-site collaboration and networking to help fill empty capacity within the network, remove dead
mileage, and reduce sub-contraction costs
* Ensure carriers & sub-contractors are contracted and have the capacity and defined services to meet the distribution needs
* Manage resources effectively to deliver the day to day activities of transport services, including volume spikes and holiday
and sickness
* Ensure transport management processes and procedures (SOPs) are defined and up to date, and are being followed by all parties
* Measure OTIF (On time in full) on a monthly basis - including overall OTIF, transport OTIF and provide other transport metrics
to provide explanation for fluctuations in cost and service, making sure there is a mechanism in place
* Manage carriers to the KPI measures in place and implementing corrective actions when necessary
* Provide information to the wider business to support the budgeting process, managing to the agreed budget of the transport
services on behalf of the client
* Act as a point of escalation for issues that arise in the management of transport services
* Apply continuous improvement methodology in the transport management operations to deliver service and cost improvement
* Develop effective relationships with both carriers and customers to advance the provision of transport management services for
the customer, always looking for growth opportunities with the customer
About You

* Ability to cope with the demands of a fast-moving and ever-changing set of priorities
* Ability to work towards targets and timescales
* Strong planning and organisational skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a good attention to detail
* Strong team player that can also work to their own initiative
* Excellent IT skills in Microsoft Office and / or Google Suites
* An understanding of Transport and/or Distribution, along with an understanding of Transport Management Systems (TMS)
* Transport, planning & operational knowledge desirable advantageous
* Good knowledge of UK geography advantageous but not essential
