Are you a highly motivated individual looking to start or expand your aquaculture career? We are currently looking to employ a Deckhand to work onboard our vessel, the Mowi Hunter. The vessel will operate across all of the Company’s farms in Scotland. The role is challenging, but ultimately very rewarding and can lead to a variety of fulfilling career progression opportunities.

If you are ambitious and motivated and want to work with a likeminded team, then this is the role for you. This post is offered on a permanent basis and the successful candidate would be required to work on a shift pattern of two weeks on / two weeks off, providing an excellent work/life balance opportunity. The vessel has full accommodation and galley facilities on board.

About the job

The role is a crucial part of the operations process and ensures that the best management of our salmon is undertaken. The vessel is primarily deployed to carry out moorings maintenance and installation across all of our sites on the West Coast of Scotland. This is a great opportunity to develop key skills required to play an important role within the moorings team. We need our Deckhands to strive for continuous improvement and deliver on all aspects of farm work to keep the team on track and performing well. The job includes, but it not limited to:

  • As part of a team you will carry out maintenance, repairs and installations of moorings and grid infrastructure across all of our sites
  • Perform any combination of duties aboard the vessel including lookout, steering and engine-room watches.
  • Loading, unloading and handling of deck cargo
  • Reporting and liaising with farm management
  • Stock control, logging and management of ships’ supplies
  • Adherence with all local laws and company policy
  • General maintenance
  • Inspection and maintenance of equipment and facilities around the farm
  • Monitoring and maintaining fish health, welfare and bio-security
  • Boat handling around the farm
  • General farm tasks to keep the whole operation running

Ideal candidate

The ideal candidate should have an interest in the aquaculture industry and be willing to learn. They will be willing to expand their understanding and work hard on the job.

  • Experience of moorings and grid work is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided
  • STCW & RYA certification is required
  • You will be required to hold, or able to obtain, and retain an ML5 or ENG1 medical certificate
  • Flexible approach to working to meet the demands of the job
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to understand the aims of the site and to support the rest of the team to achieve these
  • Respect for the need for safe working practices
  • Drivers licence is essential. No driving licence? Don’t worry, we can help with the cost of lessons

In return for your effort, you will be part of the team in a constantly expanding industry. Our Mowi Rewards include:

  • A competitive salary;
  • Overtime available at an enhanced rate;
