At University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust patients are at the centre of all we do. Derbyshire Pathology Serves both the Royal Derby Hospital Pathology and Chesterfield Royal Hospital Pathology Services and is hosted by University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation.

The single clinically lead Management Team for Derbyshire Pathology aims to:
• Provide a sustainable and efficient high quality Pathology Service for Derbyshire
• Accreditation of the combined service to UKAS ISO: 15189 to assure our users of the highest technical standards and quality of service in all that we do.


Histopathology are looking for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist who should be proactive, self-motivated, enthusiastic and have excellent communication/organisational skills. This post represents an excellent opportunity to extend skills and knowledge in Histology inclusive of A-C category dissection, as well as in digital Pathology, across a service Monday - Saturday.

Applicants must be able to perform the routine tasks of the laboratory so as to ensure that specimens are dealt with effectively and efficiently inclusive of specimen dissection on tissues A -C in partnership with the lead biomedical Scientists and Histopathologists.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in Routine Histology; IHC/Specials; microscopy QC and be comfortable trouble shooting and resolving technical issues. Familiarisation with automated IHC machines, Digital and molecular techniques is desirable as the department has a variety of platforms in use.

Participate in the audit of the technical quality of work produced in the laboratory.

Assist in the direct supervision on non -state registered staff.

To assist in the training and education of Associate practitioners and MLA’s to ensure that professional and scientific standards are achieved

Assist the Histology manager in rotating as the lead within the routine laboratory area

Familiarisation and understanding of ISO 15189 standards, Health & Safety requirements; audit and training/education techniques is desirable.
