Ready to Shape the Future of End-of-Life Services?

Are you the person who thrives where others hesitate? Do you see opportunity in complexity, and relish the chance to drive transformation at scale? If you want your work to matter, to families, communities, and the future of an entire industry, this is your moment.

At Dignity, we’re not just building the UK’s leading end-of-life company. We’re rewriting the playbook for what care, trust, and remembrance mean. With 45 crematoria, 4,000 colleagues, and a mission to modernise, grow, and set new standards, we’re looking for a Director of Performance who’s ready to be at the heart of it all.

WHO WE ARE

Dignity is building the UK’s leading end-of-life company, and doing it at pace. Across the wider group, more than 4,000 colleagues support tens of thousands of families every week through some of life’s most important moments.

The Crematorium & Memorial Group sits at the heart of that mission. We are a £100m revenue, c.£50m EBITDA division with 45 crematoria, 350 colleagues, and 70,000 cremations a year.

We’re entering a pivotal transformation. Over the next chapter we will:

  • Modernise and expand a national estate
  • Strengthen operational excellence and family experience
  • Grow memorialisation revenues meaningfully
  • Shape what care, trust, and remembrance look like for the next generation

This is a rare opportunity to join at a defining moment and help reinvent a vital part of the UK’s end-of-life infrastructure.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

This is not a behind-the-scenes role. You’ll work side by side with the Managing Director of Crematoria, James Wintle, and senior leaders, ensuring strategy turns into execution and that momentum never dips. You’ll own a portfolio of high-impact initiatives, drive operational excellence, and be at the heart of decision-making.

Here’s what that looks like:

  • Be the MD’s performance partner: turn intent into action, keep priorities focused, and ensure clarity and pace across the division.
  • Shape and oversee capital allocation: support disciplined investment decisions, prioritise projects, and ensure capital is directed where it delivers the greatest impact for families, colleagues, and the business.
  • Build and maintain a high-cadence performance rhythm across 45 crematoria sites, surfacing issues early and driving decisions through to delivery.
  • Identify and deliver commercial levers to grow memorialisation revenues, creating scalable playbooks for site-level execution.
  • Use data and insight to develop and implement local market share strategies, tracking outcomes and adjusting quickly.
  • Support estate modernisation and expansion by shaping business cases, prioritising capital investments, and overseeing delivery of new crematoria projects.
  • Establish and embed performance standards, coaching frameworks, and accountability mechanisms across the division.
  • Influence senior leaders and site teams to adopt best practices and deliver measurable improvements without ego.
  • Untangle complexity and drive solutions with pace and rigour.

WHO YOU ARE

This role is ideal for a high-performing individual who thrives in fast-paced, complex environments and enjoys turning strategy into execution. You bring clarity to ambiguity, move quickly without compromising standards, and combine analytical rigour with practical delivery. If you have strong commercial instincts, natural influencing skills, and want meaningful responsibility with direct exposure to senior leadership, this role offers a unique opportunity to make a visible impact.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Proven track record of delivering results in demanding environments such as consulting, strategy, private equity portfolio operations, multi-site operational leadership, or commercial performance roles.
  • Experience in driving performance improvement and implementing scalable processes.
  • Exposure to capital investment projects or estate modernisation is desirable.
  • Degree-level education (business, finance, or related discipline preferred).
  • Proficiency in performance management tools and reporting systems.
  • Competence in financial modelling and business case development.
  • Exceptional organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Ability to influence and build trust across senior stakeholders and site teams.
  • Resilient and calm under pressure, with a structured approach to problem-solving.
  • Commercially astute with a focus on delivering measurable impact.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?

  • A seat at the leadership table – work alongside the Managing Director of Crematoria and senior leaders, shaping the future of the business.
  • High impact, high visibility – you’ll be driving transformation, not just observing it.
  • Limitless learning and growth – gain hands-on exposure to top-level strategy, operations, and leadership.
  • Work with the best – be part of a high-performing, ambitious team.
  • Annual salary of £80,000 – £100,000 + £6,000 car allowance + bonus.
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays, 10% annual company bonus, 4x life assurance, pension scheme, private healthcare, and hybrid flexible working.

READY TO MAKE AN IMPACT?

If you’re ready to take on a role where no two days are the same, where you’ll be at the heart of game-changing decisions, and where your leadership will shape the future success of our company, we want to hear from you.
